NAME: ANDREA GIBBS // ROLE: PERFORMER // SHOW:IS THIS THING ON?
What kinds of works/performances are you most drawn to?
I love works that feel very stripped back. Ones that are confident enough to just sit in a space and own it. I love silences.
What was the last show you saw?
Our Land People Stories. Bangarra’s shows always move me and I could watch dancer Daniel Riley for hours and hours. I have a massive crush on him.
What’s the best show you’ve ever seen?
At the end of Plexus at PIAF this year, I turned to my partner and whisper screamed “F*** YES!”
Where do you see theatre and performance art 10 years from now?
I hope artists continue to think outside the box and collaborate with those that are doing something different to them. I believe real magic can happen when people share their skills across a variety of art forms. Artists will also be able to dive into huge vats of their own cash without the fear of a spinal injury, just like Scrooge McDuck. A gal can have dreams, right?
Do you have any unusual rehearsal rituals?
No rehearsal rituals, but I used to be very superstitious when I started performing stand up. I would wear a red Speedo swimsuit underneath my clothes for good luck. That was until the day I got heckled by a lady in the front row. She yelled out, “Where’s ya bra?”. I was high-beaming.
