Name? Anna Thomson // Role? Performer/Producer // Show? Madame Nightshade’s Poison Garden
How would you describe your show to your grandma?
Madame Nightshade’s Poison Garden is an absurdist comedy about how we like to cover up all the things in this world that disgust and alarm us, and what a joy it is to dig them all up again! It is Madness, Mayhem and Muck!
Favourite thing about Summer in Perth?
I love taking a trip to Freo and having a dip or getting an ice-cream. Little Creatures brewery is also a fav spot! I also love heading up to the Botanical gardens for a walk – it’s so beautiful up there.
What do you want audiences to take away from your show?
In crafting a highly visceral and visual experience I want the audience to feel something, to oscillate between joy and revulsion, delight and disgust, laughter and discomfort and leave with food for thought. I don’t make didactic work – everything is up for interpretation!
What’s your favourite banger (song) to party down to this Summer?
Salt ‘n’ Pepa: ‘Push it’ – I am having an 80’s relapse!
