We feel very humbled by the incredible support we received for our fundraising campaign. We not only met our target but exceeded it, with funds raised totalling $22,935. Thank you so much to all who donated!
The solar panels we’ll now be able to purchase will save us $7,000 a year in electricity costs, which is a lot for our organisation. This is a great step towards becoming the first carbon neutral theatre in WA.
Now the process begins. Of course we’ve laid the groundwork with discussions with the Department for Culture and the Arts, the Department of Lands (the titleholder of the Arts House), and the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority, and obtained firm quotes from suppliers.
We’ve submitted our formal request to the DCA to go ahead with the installation, and when that’s granted, we can seek the same permission from the Lands Office. The MRA will oversee heritage permission.
Our proposed timeline will see us reaping the benefits of renewable energy before the end of the year.
The Blue Room Theatre has been around for over 25 years and we want to be around for many, many more to support independent artists and present contemporary performance.
