DIG UP THAT GREAT STORY
Stories are how we create our identities, share experiences and understand our place in the world. Over four weeks, Andrea will teach students to be self-reflective, dig inside their own lives and find stories that create real connections. She will help you highlight material worth crafting into a story to share and demystify the storytelling process. Her workshop will involve many, many, many questions – so bring a pen!
“Andrea’s workshops are liberating. Her humour, timing, passion and patience is amazing. And her storytelling, contagious!” – Student, Fremantle Arts Centre 2012
“Andrea was a brilliant coach. The activities were highly productive and the mix of people made for an inspirational few days.” – Student, Shorelines 2013
Andrea Gibbs – Actor, ABC Broadcaster & Co-founder of Barefaced Stories
Andrea currently hosts her own show on ABC radio ‘Weekends with Andrea Gibbs’. As an actor, one of her most recent performances brought Cate Blanchett to tears and The Australian newspaper billed her as ‘a revelation’ in the lead role of 8 Gigabytes at Griffin Theatre Company in Sydney. Barefaced Stories was created in 2010 after Andrea returned from studying storytelling at UCB Theatre in New York and is now one of the longest running storytelling night of its kind in Australia.
Andrea was a guest speaker at TEDxPerth in 2014 and coached speakers for the 2015 event.
She was a highlight of Perth’s Women of Letters with Marieke Hardy in 2014 at PICA. As a comedian, Andrea won Triple J’s 2003 Raw Comedy state final and is a core member of Perth’s premiere improv-comedy ensemble The Big HOO-HAA!
Andrea travels all over giving people the skills and confidence to share their true life tales on stage. She never gets sick of hearing great new yarns because everyone’s got one!
