The Blue Room Theatre is announcing updates to its annual artistic program offerings and application points for artists.
From 2019, The Blue Room Theatre will present one season of at least 13 three-week productions between April – December, with works to be selected by peer assessment through an application process in September of the preceding year.
Applications to present work in Summer Nights as part of FRINGE WORLD will continue to be taken in June each year.
The Blue Room Theatre is establishing Winter Nights, a new mid-year festival to imagine, discover and connect through theatre, including new works-in-progress, professional development, talks, forums and the unexpected.
It is a platform for the new theatrical ideas, collaborations and sources of inspiration that independent artists wish to bring to it.
Opportunities to participate in Winter Nights will be offered in March each year.
This increases and diversifies the opportunities to develop and present work while maintaining three points of access over the course of the year.
A pilot version of Winter Nights is being trialed in 2018 and opportunities to get involved are being offered as part of this announcement. Details are available HERE.
The Blue Room Theatre team has developed this updated program in consultation with members and the theatre industry throughout 2017.
The changes are mindful of the most efficient use of our resources, have an eye on industry practice throughout Australia and seek to increase the profile of, and audience for, the independent artists we exist to serve.
The Blue Room Theatre continues to strive to be the preeminent destination in Australia for the support and presentation of independent theatre.
Opportunities to engage in all parts of the artistic program and professional development will continue to be advertised through The Blue Room Theatre’s website, enews and social media channels.
We encourage all theatre, performance and dance artists to dream big about what we can do together.
