It allows artists to be proactive, experiment and learn through doing. Alvin was just one of these many experiments, and it has taken me all around the world. There is nowhere quite like the Blue Room and I sing its praises wherever I go.” Tim Watts, The Last Great Hunt (The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik, Bruce, It’s Dark Outside)
For 25 years, The Blue Room Theatre has been the home of independent theatre and performance in WA. Last year, Tim Minchin came back to see us and told us that without the support of The Blue Room Theatre early in his career, there would be no Matilda.
In those 25 years, we’ve given people like Tim, Claire Hooper, Kate Mulvany, Tim Watts and Matt Lutton their ‘foot in the door’. This season, we’re working with people like Shakara Walley, Sarah Young, Pete Townsend, Kevin Wangai, Violette Ayad and more as they start their professional careers.
We’re here for artists. We exist to give independent artists and small to medium-sized companies the opportunity, skills and confidence to succeed.
We’re here for audiences. Our Summer Nights program has won the Best Independent Program at FRINGE WORLD for 3 years now and our seasons present an eclectic mix of the new, the now and the next big thing.
We’re here for the community. We work closely with our partners and neighbours, putting artists at the heart of the Cultural Centre.
We make things happen. We’ve worked with hundreds of artists in the last year and contribute to their professional development in proactive ways.
We’re here year-round and we need your support to continue what we do.
