Sustainability

We’re turning green.

The Blue Room Theatre is committed to decreasing our environmental impact and carbon output, with the goal of becoming the first completely carbon neutral theatre in Western Australia.

In 2012, we commissioned environmental auditors Simply Carbon to complete a full audit of our energy usage to identify our carbon footprint and highlight areas for improvement with generous support through the City of Perth Environment Grants and Sponsorship program .

Following the audit, we completed a whole-of-staff workshop with Simply Carbon to go through the report and have staff generate a plan to reduce our emissions.

We have already implemented a range of energy efficiency measures around the venue, including:

– The installation of LED globes
– The replacement of old systems throughout the venue with newer, energy-efficient models
– The use of Who Gives A Crap toilet paper, which is 100% recycled, with 50% of profits going towards building sanitation in developing countries

Staff member and green guru Karen Connolly is driving our sustainability project, and is a regular blogger for us. To find out more about our progress, view the related posts on this page.
