Voice trainer and consultant Julia Moody will facilitate two workshops exploring and upskilling artists across breath and their voice.

Details and registration for the workshops are now open. Sessions are accessible to one-off participants – you are not required to attend the first session in order to participate in the second.

Julia Moody was Head of Voice in the Acting Department at WAAPA for 22 years. Julia has also lectured in Voice at RADA (UK), RCSSD (UK), VCA (AUS), QUT (AUS), NZASDA (NZ), BAPA (AUS), and has worked as voice trainer and consultant across all professional disciplines. She is a fully accredited Associate Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework (New York).

#1: Breathing Workshop: Thursday 2 April, 11am – 12pm

A meditative exploration of release using classical and contemporary approaches to allow the breath to suit the thought to suit the word. This workshop will consist of mostly floor work; you will need a yoga mat or towel, a couple of cushions, any piece of text, and enough space to be able to do a sand angel on the floor. You’ll feel great afterwards!

#2: Voice Alive: Tuesday 7 April, 11am – 12pm

This workshop will explore alignment, resonance, range, and articulation through a breath and vocal warm up, culminating in speaking a piece of text. There is no obligation to ‘perform’ the text, only to engage in and enjoy the exploration and method. You will need a yoga mat or towel, a couple of cushions, any piece of text, and enough space to be able to do a sand angel on the floor.

These workshops are available for members of The Blue Room Theatre of any experience and practice, and will be delivered through online video conferencing and webinar service, Zoom. Participating in the workshops is free, however RSVP is essential. Register your virtual attendance to The Blue Room Theatre’s online series of professional development opportunities by clicking the ‘Buy Now’ button and filling out the form, and we’ll be in touch with the logistics and house rules. These sessions have a limited capacity – please be respectful of your fellow members and only book a spot if you intend on tuning in.

Creatives who want to participate but are not currently members can join at the discounted rate of $35. If this fee is still too much to part with in this challenging time, we are able to facilitate a delayed payment option. To access the discount or defer payment, please contact Sally and Scott via
