The Melbourne theatre community was recently devastated by the fire that burned down La Mama on Faraday Street in Carlton. The destruction of the iconic venue was a loss felt far and wide across Australia’s independent sector. La Mama’s future is bright however, and Perth’s theatre community is pitching in to help our interstate compadre with a one-off fundraiser on the final evening of our inaugural Winter Nights.
WHOA MAMA! brings you the performative stylings of a gaggle of Perth’s theatre professionals at their loosest. The rules are vague, the spirits are high, and the fun will be undoubtedly infectious. Our line-up includes visiting artist Daniel Schlusser, Black Swan State Theatre Company Artistic Director Clare Watson and Helpman Award winning composer and 2020-2023 Artistic Director of Perth Festival Iain Grandage, with the always fresh Libby Klysz and Matt Penny as your lovely hosts.
All door takings and 50% of the bar will go towards the fund to rebuild and repair the theatre, so come and get loose for La Mama.
Winter Nights is a cauldron for theatre making, a mid-year meeting point of theatre making and ideas about construction and deconstruction, politics and activism, gender and sexuality, inspiration and disenchantment, war, peace, camaraderie, loneliness, joy; whatever is timely for artists and audiences to share.
