Following consultation with independent theatre artists across the country, the Equity Independent Theatre Committee (ITC) has finalised the sector’s first-ever national best practice guide.
The Guide sets out what indies should expect in terms of hours, financial transparency and safety. It speaks to our values as well as the nitty-gritty of making a show. Its purpose is to empower performers, theatre-makers, producers, designers, crew and anyone who plays a part in bringing an indie production to life, to ask for fair working conditions and help phase out unsustainable practices.
WA’s ITC representative Nick Maclaine and equity organiser Andrew Markey are hosting an information night about the guide. It’ll be an open forum where independent artists and producers can learn more about what the guide is, find out how WA indies helped shape it, and how we can all use it to create a stronger, more vibrant and diverse sector. Attendees will be sent a copy of the guide in advance, and copies will be available on the night.
