When remembrance becomes resistance
Step into the fractured future of Aqua Nullius, a speculative Pasifikafuturism play series by Emele Ugavule, where memory, data, and ancestry collide. This double-bill presentation, Toe Fai! and Talaucaka, weaves together two interconnected worlds that imagine futures shaped by ecological collapse and technological empire, drawing from an Indigenous Pacific perspective.
TOE FAI!
Set in the year 2102 where the world is completely dependent on artificial intelligence, Toe Fai! follows Kalala, a tour guide in the British Museum, examining how our memories betray, transform, and outlive us.
TALAUCAKA
In Talaucaka, we meet Kalala again – now a decade later – after ecological collapse, alongside three other Pacific people, working as data annotators in the former British Museum.
Together, Toe Fai! and Talaucaka chart the evolution of one woman, one archive, and one world – from the cusp of forgetting to the ruins of remembrance.
