Come together, celebrate and discuss the art of playwriting
The third session of Good Play Club 2019 will be held at 6pm on Tuesday 19 November and will focus on Shit by Patricia Cornelius. Jeffrey Jay Fowler will facilitate the session, and will be joined by two guests – Emily McLean, director of the recent smash hit The Wolves here at The Blue Room Theatre, and Michelle Aitken, who comes straight from directing SHARBAT, and from writing Kind Regards, Michelle Aitken for Black Swan’s Emerging Writers’ Group.
Good Play Club is for theatre makers of any experience. Attending the event is free, however RSVP is essential. You can RSVP by clicking the ‘Buy Now’ button and filling out the form. For more info on how Good Play Club works, read the details below.
Since 2016 Good Play Club has provided a place to foster conversation among the artists of Perth about the history and progression of theatre from ancient times through to contemporary practice. Beginning first with plays from the canon of great theatrical works, in 2018 the initiative focussed solely on the works of female playwrights, and we’re pleased to announce that this year’s Good Play Club will see three sessions focussing on plays that are born from, but challenge, the canon.
Each session will see an informal reading of a selected play followed by a guided conversation led by Black Swan Director of New Writing Jeffrey Jay Fowler, and will feature two guest artists who have work on Perth’s stages this year. It is a fantastic forum to engage with other artists and discuss how the theatre staged today fits the context in which it was originated, and collectively work towards a more informed and engaged theatre sector.
If you have any questions or can’t make it to the next session but want to be kept in the loop about future events, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our Producer, Harriet, at harriet@blueroom.org.au
