For the first two weeks of June, The Blue Room Theatre will play host to two new virtual workshops that hone the craft of your pitch.

The pandemic has unfortunately (and hopefully only temporarily!) limited opportunities for Western Australian artists both in funding avenues and touring opportunities. These two workshops speak directly to how to apply and strengthen your project offer within the opportunities that are available and viable for artists right now.

Details and registrations are open below.

#1: Wrangling the U15K with Katt Osborne: Thursday 4 June, 4pm – 5pm

Following the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries suspension of most of their arts and cultural funding rounds for West Australian artists, we’re profiling one of the last standing – the quick response U15K grant.

Hear from The Blue Room Theatre’s Acting Executive Director, experienced artist and producer Katt Osborne on how to conquer this application and put your strongest argument forward. Katt will talk through framing your project pitch for the U15K funding application, running through the selection criteria, what the questions want from you, what should go in your budget and how to get the most out of your support material.

#2: Regional Touring with CircuitWest: Thursday 11 June, 4pm – 5pm

With limitations on travel across international, interstate and even intrastate borders, plans to tour shows have currently been put on hold. However, with Western Australia’s regional travel allowances steadily re-opening, this means that opportunities for artists to tour their work will be back on the cards.

Smarten up about the practicalities and considerations of touring with this workshop from CircuitWest’s Touring Coordinators, Rebecca Nelson and Natalie Di Risio.

Touring is a deeply collaborative and interconnected business. It can be challenging but also extremely rewarding, and is a great way to broaden and engage with different audiences and contribute to local community. Bec and Nat will introduce what is involved in the touring process including connecting with presenters, itinerary and budget building, marketing kits and technical considerations.

These workshops are available for members of The Blue Room Theatre of any experience and practice, and will be delivered through online video conferencing and webinar service, Zoom. Participating in the workshops is free, however RSVP is essential. Register your virtual attendance to The Blue Room Theatre’s online series of professional development opportunities by clicking the ‘Buy Now’ button and filling out the form, and we’ll be in touch with the logistics and house rules. These sessions have a limited capacity – please be respectful of your fellow members and only book a spot if you intend on tuning in.

Creatives who want to participate but are not currently members can join at the discounted rate of $35. If this fee is still too much to part with in this challenging time, we are able to facilitate a delayed option. To access the discount or defer payment, please contact Sally and Scott via sally-scott@blueroom.org.au
