No place like home
Somewhere in Australian suburbia, a family of 5 hold their annual Christmas in July celebration. Mum prepares the turkey and youngest Georgia curates the yearly slideshow. Eldest daughter Charlie is home for the first time in months, meanwhile Dad is in the thick of his reelection campaign for the seat of Respite.
But something is different this year, and an obsession with old memories, past guilt, and bittersweet nostalgia bewitches the whole family. Nan’s always got a story about how great things used to be.
In the first full-length play by Lily Baitup, We’ll Always Have Bali invites you to share a home-cooked meal with the Wainwright’s in this immensely relatable intergenerational dramedy examining family politics, Aussie traditions, and why we hold onto memories of “the good ol’ days”.
