O,D,E Extended Content & Trigger Warnings
Please note that the following content warnings contain spoilers of the production
- The show is scary. The horrific elements in the show are more existential, eerie or weird: the show never shocks for shock’s sake. There is no physical violence in the show.
- The performers in the show sometimes come very close to the front row, but never touch the audience.
- Your safety is the highest priority. The layout of the room makes it difficult to leave discreetly. If you feel you need to go, please carefully leave the way you came and do not feel concerned about interrupting the show. If there is a performer blocking the exit, they will be there for one minute at most.

Sound
- The show is dynamic, but can get loud – sometimes very loud, and sometimes suddenly without warning. Low, noisy sounds like distorted bass guitars and sub-bass electronics, and more shrill sounds like trumpet, classical singing and black metal shrieks and screams, are part of the sound. Whilst open to multiple readings, some of these sounds are commonly evocative of fear and terror, and might invoke this response in some listeners. The show’s sound also includes extended drones (both quiet and medium-loud), and a number of uncomfortably long silences.
- Free earplugs are available. The Blue Room front-of-house person seated in the front row of the show has spare earplugs – please tap them on the shoulder to be given some, if you forgot on your way in.
Themes
- The show contains depictions of death. Death is personified in many scenes in the opera – they are depicted as otherworldly, incomprehensible and intense, and characters do at times react to them in fear or terror. Death is ultimately written as a peaceful, if somewhat indifferent, character.
- Whilst depicted abstractly, the show contains a scene where someone, appearing with a “new body”, is rejected by their lover on this basis. This alludes to and could be interpreted as a gender transition narrative. This happens in the sixth scene (about halfway through the opera).
- The show contains illegible language and spiritual or occult elements which might invoke the idea of speaking in tongues.
Sensory accessibility & allergies
- The room contains open flames from beeswax candles.
- A haze machine is used at times in the show.
- The room is often very dimly lit. No strobes or fast flashing lights will be used.
Lock-out
- If you need to leave, you can, but unfortunately we cannot re-admit anyone.
- If you need earplugs and forgot to get some on the way in, the Blue Room Theatre’s front-of-house person in the room has spares. Please don’t be nervous to tap them on the shoulder and ask.
