Introduction to Playwriting

Your story matters. Let’s write the future — together.

Run in collaboration with The Blue Room Theatre, this workshop series welcomes emerging storytellers ready to explore the world of playwriting.

This program is created specifically for First Nations, CALD, and POC artists, writers and storytellers, designed to directly address systemic barriers to arts participation, and underrepresentation within the sector. We’re looking for bold voices, fresh ideas, and powerful perspectives. If you identify as First Nations, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) or a person of colour (POC) and have a passion for storytelling — this is your moment.

About the Program

Introduction to Playwriting combines guided in-person sessions with flexible self-learning, giving you space to explore your story while building skills and community along the way.

The Program will involve two LABs, concluding with a reading event for industry professionals, and friends & family of participants. Each lab will be followed by an online check-in with program facilitator.

  • In-Person Workshops Dive into playwriting with guidance from WA playwright Phil Thomson and internationally acclaimed writer & performer, Neil D’Souza (Mahabharata) — two dynamic artists ready to spark your creativity and bring your stories to life.

  • Self-Directed Writing Time Develop your work at your own pace between sessions

Introduction to Playwriting is open to ALL community members, and emerging artists and writers — across all experience levels.
