Things keep breaking. The bedroom door won’t close. The printer keeps jamming. The plaster is cracking. Nothing is still. Costs are rising. Bills are piling. Downtime is dwindling. Cute cats are on the news. The line for meatballs gets longer. And a lamp and a chair are trying to be enough when the world is constantly demanding more.
Combining poetry, visual art, community engagement, and comedy, How To: Break A Chair knows that it sucks, but wants to forge a hopeful future for us all.
“This silliness reverberates [into] a sublime piece of writing that’s a commentary on consumerism, the cost of living, ageing and the cult of wellness, from the perspectives of a chair and a desk lamp. Sound weird? It is – weird and wonderful… Under Bronte Frances’ tight direction, How to: Break a Chair is clever theatre” — Claire Trolio, Seesaw Magazine
