I Met Christine James-Scott in the Shopping Centre Carpark
7-11 Dec
2021 STAGE ONE production
Curtin’s Theatre Arts and the Hayman Theatre Company are pleased to present their 2021 STAGE ONE production.
I Met Christine James-Scott in the Shopping Centre Carpark is a one-act play centred around a group of local teenagers at the tail-end of their adolescence. The year is 1988 and they are led by the charismatic and blunt Julia, stuck in their own aimlessness and uncertain about the future. Enter Christine James-Scott: beautiful, magnetic, and a real-life movie star. Christine claims to have starred in 1984 movie The Never-Ending Story, which can’t be true. Can it? I Met Christine James-Scott in the Shopping Centre Carpark asks what purpose the truth serves and what’s our relationship to it.
STAGE ONE is a Curtin Theatre Arts initiative. Now in its 10th year, STAGE ONE offers a Western Australian playwright the opportunity to write and premiere a new play and provides our undergraduate acting and technical students with the experience of working with a playwright, director and designer on the development and production of a new work in an off-campus venue.
