In a crooked little town in the belly of a crooked giant whale, things are looking grim. Blubber prices are through the blowhole, and it’s pretty clear the whale is dying. Enter a charismatic broker, running for mayor, on a platform of purity, profit, and prohibition. The Belly is a kooky, creepy satire, set in the blackest of black pits.
The Belly is the 14th STAGE ONE production from Curtin’s Theatre Arts and the Hayman Theatre Company. This initiative offers a Western Australian playwright the opportunity to write and premiere a new play and provides our undergraduate acting and technical students with the experience of working with a playwright, director and designer on the development and production of a new work in The Blue Room Theatre.
