Hi, welcome aboard! I’m Kaitlin. I wrote EARTHSIDE, with the loving guidance of my creative crew-mates. We wanted to include a bit more information about what you’re in for when you blast off with us!
Content Warnings & Age Recommendations
EARTHSIDE contains mature themes and references to trauma, birth, medical procedures (caesarean), post-natal depression and PTSD. It also contains strong language, loud noises and haze effects.
Some audiences may find some of the content tough or triggering – I understand, I do. Sometimes I go to shows or movies and absolutely bawl my eyes out, or need to leave. And that’s okay. We think we’ve made a show that is well-balanced and safe to experience – it’s also very funny in lots of places, promise! – but you are very welcome to leave and re-enter at any time during the performance. There’ll be no lock-out.
We’ll also provide some resources from The Australasian Birth Trauma Association and PANDA about where to access help post-show.
We recommend EARTHSIDE for audiences aged 15+. For our relaxed performance on Tuesday 3 May, parents are welcome to attend with babes-in-arms, if the baby can be on the parent’s lap.
Relaxed Performance
We’ve put a morning matinee on sale, for those that need access to an earlier timeslot and a relaxed performance, happening Tuesday 3 May, 10:30am. Parents are welcome to bring their babies to this session – think of it like a baby friendly cinema!
What is a relaxed performance?
- EARTHSIDE will make minor changes to sensory elements of the show – such as reducing bright lighting or loud noises.
- There is a relaxed attitude to noise and movement.
- The theatre doors remain open, and the house lights remain on, but dimmed, throughout the performance.
- You can leave the venue at any time and a designated quiet area is available.
At the end of the matinee – if you are a parent attending with a young infant, you are welcome to join us for a chat over a delicious morning tea. It starts immediately following the show and will be facilitated by the performer and Mother Baby Nurture. This event is free, but pre-registration is essential. Registration link coming.
