About Summer Nights
Straddling the scorching seasons of Birak and Bunuru, we come together at The Blue Room Theatre to bask in good company and share in a summer festival of performance: a whirlwind of new collaborations, social commentary, dance, theatrical playfulness, and heartfelt stories. Works are shorter than the Annual Season, require less tech and can be packed up swiftly before and after.
About Annual Season
Our Annual Season is our main program and the cornerstone of The Blue Room Theatre’s artistic program that runs from April – November. Each year, it sees independent new works offered unparalleled support from conception to presentation in our black box theatre spaces. Our Annual Seasons are diverse in form, content, genre, artists and practice. The focus is on a team developing a work over a few months and sustaining a presentation season for up to 15 performances. Teams have exclusive access to the theatres to create their vision.
About EVOLVE
The Blue Room Theatre and STRUT Dance partner to support a presentation opportunity within TBRT’s 2026 Season for an emerging dance maker (in first 5 years of making). The selected artist/s will present a movement-based work for 2-3 weeks of performance that has undergone at least one development or presentation in the past.
As well as the Annual season deal and support regularly offered by TBRT, the selected emerging artist/s will also receive matched support from STRUT Dance to facilitate the presentation. Applicants must be current STRUT Members and be living and working in Western Australia for a minimum 6 of the last 12 months.
About Development Incubator
New initiative, the Development Incubator, is a program for early-mid career artists to receive up to 4 weeks of in-kind rehearsal space. This opportunity is aimed at developing a show ready to be pitched to mainstage venues/ major festivals or the Australian Performing Arts Market. Successful artists will receive $8000 to support the development of their production, along with having the opportunity to present a showing for invited guests and industry professionals.
