CORE x TILT

CORExTILT(1)_Web1

8 - 14 July

Residency

The roots of Country continue to live and thrive. If you’re willing to go deeper, to connect… what might you discover?

CORE was first developed and presented as part of WAAPA’s 2024 TILT Project; using multi-modal theatre to explore what it means to live and work on Country.

In this development, the makers will reunite to for a week of discovery and expansion on work’s themes and the theatrical materials used to express them.

What will be the focus of your residency and what are the themes, concepts, or methods you are interested in exploring through your work?

The focus of our residency is to deepen and expand on the works themes of place and Aboriginal identity within a colonised landscape. In our TILT presentation, we used organic materials such as sand, colliding with non-organic materials such as mesh; and also the use of visual projection of nature/Country. In the development we plan to continue exploring in this direction to create a work that feels more tactile and immersive; more embodied.

What excites you the most about this project and what are you hoping to get out of your residency?

We are most excited for the opportunity of multiple full-day access to a space. We are keen to see what will be born, and what might blossom, from getting to spend continual hours in the one space as a team. Secondly, we are excited to get to work with a mentor/facilitator, and for what fresh eyes may bring to the work. We hope to expand on our current inklings and leave the week feeling artistically fed.
